Mocaogou Ophiolite Suite

Mocaogou Ophiolite Suite is a set of rocks including ultrabasic rock, serpentine, silicite, basalt and other lithologies.

Ophiolite Suite has special geological significance. It is formed in the mid-ocean ridge. When the oceanic plate subducts and collides, most of the rocks such as ultramafic rocks, euphotide, basalt and silicite that make up the oceanic plate are destroyed. Luckily, there is still a small amount of remains as the evidence of plate collisions.

Angular Unconformity Boundary

Angular unconformity refers to the formation of an old stratum that was formed and then lifted by the movement of the earth's crust. After the local crust sinks again and accepts deposition, it overlies the strata of the new era. The shape of old and new layers are different and there are obvious lacuna, weathering and denudation.

It is the north point of grayish green phyllite in the Naqitai Group from the Ordovician (480-440 million years ago) and the south point of sandy conglomerate unconformity borderline from the triassic Hongshuichuan Formation (250-203 million years ago).

Among them, the Hongshuichuan formation is a set of rubble rock and is deposited in the ocean-terrestrial environment. It is an important indicator of geological indication of the foreland basin. The foreland basin is formed behind the orogenic belt. This unconformity testifies to the orogeny in the park.

Xueshuihe Ductile Shear Zone

Ductile shear zone refers to the fact that it is subject to a force and the flow deforms when the rock is in the plastic flow state deep in the earth's crust. The rock becomes a narrow line and ose on both sides are shifted.

At this point, the rock was stretched into a line where the rock fragments into a shape like an eyeball. The dark gray rock is mylonite and the light gray is gneiss. There is gray marble about 8m thick between them.

Small and Medium-sized Structures

Tuolugou Folds

The fold group with multiple synclines and anticlines and a width of about 1.5km, consists of the Cretaceous Cement Group (Ksh) formations. It contains gray-green phyllodites and gray-yellow feldspar quartz sandstones.

Xiaonanchuan Fault Zone

The fault zone passes through this point, and two faults are distributed on the east and west sides of the mountain. There are about 5 faults in each group, and the upper plate (the part above the fault plane) of each fault is successively and correspondingly upward, like a tile. The darker rocks in the middle of the two faults are squeezed and broken.

Angular Fold

Angular Fold is a syncline about 25m high and about 7m wide, composed of the Ordovician Nachitai Group (480-440 million years ago). It contains metamorphic sandstone and quartzite. The hinge zone is V-shape and a typical angular syncline with the two wings nearly erect. It is a horizontal fold that stands vertically with a nearly vertical folding hinge and a close to horizontal axial surface.

Folded Mountain

The folded mountain is 4,289m above sea level. It is a mountain formed by unconformable folds developed in the Carboniferous-Permian (about 250-350 million years ago). The bottom is about 1.5km wide. It is a small tectonic landform, mainly consisting of metamorphic sandstone and crystalline limestone. Its formation was mainly affected by the structural movements of Hualixi-Himalayan. Along the fault negative geomorphology, it developed reverse faults. At the point where the faults run across, the rock formation was disordered, the rock broken, and an extruding fracture zone about tens of meters wide formed. The rock formation is distorted as a whole, which is characterized by uncoordinated folds. The individual folds have a wavelength (width) of approximately 400-800m and amplitude (height) of approximately 30-50m.
