How is alkaline mineral water of Mount Kunlun formed?
1. Good environment for water source
Alkaline mineral water is found along the Golmud-Lhasa Section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway at an altitude of 4,180-4,200m. There is a vast territory with a sparse population and no pollution along the line. A good natural environment is provided for alkaline mineral water of Mount Kunlun. More than 85 cirque glaciers and small valley glaciers are developed at the north slope of Mount Kunlun in the south of Dongdatan and Xidatan with a total volume of 4.5km3. It provides abundant water for the permafrost and as deep water.
2. Favorable geological conditions
Complicated Dongdatan and Xidatan as well as the fault set near Yuzhu Peak provide runoff channels for the ground water. After glacier melting, water seeps into the underground along the rock structure fissure, is transported along structural fracture channel under the action of gravity, overflows to the earth surface in case of encountering fault and is filtered based on good formation condition. Finally the precious snow mountain spring water is formed. The spring water is recycled once for over 20 years. The water is 2～3s 2with balanced yield. The water is rich in strontium, calcium, potassium and bicarbonate radical, which are microelements necessary for human body.
