West Queen Jade Pool
West Queen Jade Pool was formerly known as the Black Sea, 250km from Golmud City, and 4,300 m above sea level. It extends for about 12,000 m from east to west, and about 5,000 m from north to south. It has a maximum depth of 107m and an area of 38.74 km2. It is a natural lake on the plateau. It is a structural fault-depressed lake. The lake is mainly supplied by melting ice through underground runoff. The sediment in the water is low, which makes the lake clear with high transparency as the source of the Kunlun River. On the west bank of the upstream, the shoreline of the ancient lake can be seen. On the west and south banks of the lake, a large area of surface lacustrine deposits can be found, indicating that the lake is gradually shrinking.
