Mount Kunlun UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the east of Kunlun Mountains, the southwestern Golmud City of Qinghai Province. This area is 30km away from Golmud City, and connects with Nanshankou in the north, Kunlun Mountain Pass in the south, Xidatan in the west and Tuolugou in the east. It is 3,091-6,178m above sea level with an area of 7,033.17km2.
The Geopark is known for the sights like glacier, periglacial landform and earthquake remains. They have recorded the many times of transitions of sea and land in the Geopark, the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the 5 ice ages. Mount Kunlun, known as the ancestor of all the mountains, has been a prominent place in the cultural history of the Chinese nation since ancient times. It breeds the Kunlun mythological system among others in China. The Taoist Kunlun School also originated here, with a long cultural history.
